   I have a hard time believing those are frozen tsunami waves.

   For one thing, it’s rather difficult to freeze moving water, even in extreme sub-zero temperatures.

   Another thing is the color of the ice: it’s blue, and that means that the ice was formed and then subjected to extreme pressures which squeeze out all of the air bubbles that may have been trapped in the ice, which would most certainly happen if it were a frozen tsunami.

   Amazing pictures, incorrect description.

    that is so beautiful. but tsunami’s move REALLY FAST so its like IMPOSSIBLE for it to freeze like that. i have NO idea what it really is but it is very beautiful.

    Those are some beautiful pictures. I didn’t know blue ice, or any ice for that matter, could be found in these kind of shapes.

    Geoff, where on earth did you learn your science? You need to hit the books again, evidently. While I will agree that the photos are NOT frozen tsunami waves (what a silly notion), I will totally and utterly disagree with your “For one thing, its rather difficult to freeze moving water, even in extreme sub-zero temperatures” statement. You are very wrong. Even boiling water will freeze instantaneously when thrown from a cup at about -20° F. Look it up there Geoff, and ye shall see. I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska and I can assure you with a 100% guarantee that I am right, as I’ve done it myself.

    As an after thought, I should also share that it makes a whistle (the hot water) when thrown. I’m sure you can find a video at you tube if you all wish to see for yourself.

    Yeah, it is possible to freeze salt water, even if it’s moving. There are two problems with that, and Geoff nailed one of them. Firstly, that is very old ice (from the colour several hundred years old at least), which has been inside a glacier. Secondly, if you flash-freeze water (as might happen if you throw a pot of water into the air), then it breaks apart, and doesn’t maintain its coherent shape. Try making an icicle by pouring water out of a cup… You have to pour veeeeery slowly.
